Colour: Deep Crimson Red with youthful purple hues.
Aroma: Abundance of red fruits, cherry and forest berries.Palate Fresh fruit characters of cherry and berries, complemented by herbal nuances. The tannins provide a soft, round mouthfeel which accentuate the youthful fruit characters. This wine is youthful and generous.
Wine: The 2019 vintage growing season was very dry through winter and spring. The dry conditions continued through January and February providing very high quality but lower yields. The wine has high concentration of fruit with nuances of oak, soft tannins and palate length. This wine can be enjoyed with beef cheek ravioli or feta & mint crumbed rack of lamb. Alternatively the Leone Merlot can be drunk on any occasion and with correct cellaring can be enjoyed from many years - Cellar 5-8 years.
Winemaking: The Merlot is harvested from estate grown vineyards in the Southern Barossa Valley. Single wire trellising, low yields gave wines of intensity and roundness. Matured in seasoned American oak for a short time to emphasise varietal character and plump fruit characters and mouthfeel. Fermented at 25-28 C in open fermenters to increase the oxygen contact during fermentation. Optimum skin contact defines the soft tannins and mouthfeel on the palate.
