For the 2016 Mad Abbot Christmas Ale we changed up the malt bill by adding rye malt, which gives an added silky smooth characters. The result is an ultra smooth, strong dark ale exhibiting complex characters of spice, rum, raising, dark cherry, dark plum, leather and vanilla bean. It will reward with careful cellaring up to 5+ years after date of bottling.
Colour and appearance: Dark brown, almost black in colour with a creamy beige head
Aroma: Strong rum, raisin and stone fruit
Flavour: Rich fruity taste with hints of plum, cherry, raisin, assorted sweet spices. Like Christmas in a bottle
Suggested food match: Excellent with strong cheeses and hearty red meat dishes. Could be positioned as a dessert beer with chocolate or coffee flavoured desserts or as an after dinner night cap
